The Bill of Rights
Instructions: Match each amendment with the rights that it provides in the Constitution.
Right to a trial by jury in federal civil
courts (lawsuits at common law) when the
value in controversy exceeds $20
Any power not listed in the Constitution,
is reserved to the states (or the people)
The right to a speedy and public trial, by
an impartial jury; the right to be
informed of the charges; the right of a
defendant to confront witnesses against
him; to obtain witnesses in their favor;
to have a lawyer
RAPPS: Freedoms of religion, assembly,
the press, to petition the government,
and speech
Freedom from excessive bail, fines, and
cruel and unusual punishment
No one can be forced to house and care
for soldiers during a time of peace
Just because a recognized right isn't
listed in the Constitution, does not mean
the government can deny the people that
right
Protection against unreasonable
searches and seizures; warrants of
probable cause are required
The right to keep a well regulated militia
and the right of the people to keep and
bear arms
Grand Jury indictment is required to hold
someone for court; double jeopardy
clause; cannot be forced to be a witness
against yourself; due process;
government cannot take property without
providing compensation
