Universal Basic Income

I was listening to KQED Marketplace (local public radio) and heard this fascinating story of a guaranteed income program experiment being run in Cambridge, Massachusetts. These experiments are happening all over the world with differing outcomes. It's a great 4 minute listen - so put on your headphones and listen to this:

Your first assignment is all about the idea behind a UBI - Universal Basic Income (or, guaranteed income, or whatever else it is called).

Do you think the Universal Basic Income is a good or bad idea?
Review the articles and podcasts I posted in this week's module.
Write a 750 word argument either for or against a Universal Basic Income.
You must have a solid opening paragraph with an underlined claim of value, fact, or policy. Remember - your claim is your thesis statement and should be one sentence. Your opening paragraph should only be 4-6 sentences.
Provide support from at least three sources.
Write a very strong rebuttal paragraph providing support for the opposing viewpoint. Do not argue against the rebuttal - you must take the opposing viewpoints stance and argue for the opposition (just like we learned in the government propositions).
Cite your sources in the essay and in a "Works Cited" (bibliography) page.
Do not answer each of these questions individually. They should all be answered in a smooth, well thought out essay.
