Student will choose a non-infectious human disease and research its: - History - when identified, named, and by whom. - Etiology - study of the cause of the disease. - Signs, symptoms, progression and prognosis for individuals with disease. - How the disease disrupts normal body function at the following levels: cellular, tissue, organ, organ system, organism. - Compare/contrast at least two treatments/courses of action for the disease. - Interview and/or correspond with a medical professional who treats or researches the disease. - What is in the future for the disease - treatments, prevention, research. Student will write a paper with proper APA in-text citations and references section that includes all information as listed in above section, using at least 5 sources (from different web sites, organizations, or Journals), one of which must be a primary source. A primary source is one that is found in a peer-reviewed journal and includes original research material and conclusions. Student will present their findings to their class in a short, narrated multi-media presentation (PowerPoint or video). Both your paper and presentation will be uploaded to their Assignments folder no later than the due date indicated in the Assignments section of our course D2 L site. Student will meet and/or correspond regularly with instructor to discuss progress and findings.
