Britain provided guidance for the modernization of Japan. The British advised them on the layout of cities and the construction of a railroad network, the location of industrial plants, and the organization of education. The Japanese also drive on the left side of the road (making it hard for US automobile production) and moved the capital to Honshu renamed Tokyo.
