This object was used as a piece of building material in the construction of Fort Julien in the Nile Delta. It was discovered by a French soldier that occupied the fort in 1799, and Jean-Francois Champollion (ZHAN fran-SWAH SHAM-POE-lee-own) deciphered it in 1822:
