The company's vision and mission are to help our community of consumers by being the leading provider of products and services in the most natural way possible and this still holds to this day (Life Science Nutraceuticals, Inc. (LSN) Company Profile PDF, 2021). For the company to grow by utilizing our core values through customer-centricity, innovation, knowledge, and sustainability, we must reach within the organization. As a senior leadership consultant for LSN, it is my responsibility to evaluate the company and its employees when seeking future members of the workforce. This includes each level of staff member here at LSN.
Purpose
In reviewing the job announcement for the “right” new leader, the company would benefit from revitalizing the job requirements. Although the previous announcement did target key priorities for the company, views of leadership have shifted since the 1990s. The older version announcement does not target the leader-manager-employee relationship, it states the individualized task for the position. Let’s begin with several differences between management and leadership to better understand the need to revise the job announcement and how to include the team to be most successful.
Management verse Leadership
Management seeks formal authority in a position of power, imposes their ideas, is more concerned with task performance, and coaches just to get the job done. Whereas leaders will seek the interpersonal influence of personal power, encourage others to develop ideas, show concern for staff, and mentor leadership in others when completing a job (Differences Between Management and Leadership, UMGC, 2024). The job announcement must reflect all these qualities in the posting to attract the best candidates.
Support
Our employees should be ready to go above and beyond to support their own and others' ability to succeed. The Leader-Member Exchange (LMX) Theory proposes this relationship is key to understanding how leaders influence employees (What’s New? Contemporary Approaches to Leadership Style, UMGC, 2024). These high-quality LMX relationships aid against stress (Bauer et al., 2006; Erdogan, Kraimer, & Liden, 2004; Major et al., 1995). LSN wants to remain the leader in the industry and provide the best product to our customers and future customers as we grow around the globe.
Conclusion
Moving forward, my highest priority will be to attract and acquire employees to include leaders, who have the company's same vision, will communicate within the entire organization, and have a better connection with the staff. We should start with our current leaders and then work with newcomers. Beginning with training and innovative methods to keep speeds high and costs low, keep distribution moving smoothly and efficiently while meeting deadlines. The job announcement will include updated characteristics such as physical vitality and stamina, action-oriented judgment, eagerness to accept responsibility, skill in dealing with people, self-confidence, adaptability, dynamic personality, and effective communication just to list a few.
