A ball is launched by a spring loaded launcher at an initial speed. We can measure the initial (launch) speed in the lab by:
Launch the ball straight up and measure the maximum height it reaches before dropping down.
Launch the ball straight up and measure the time it takes to return to the initial position.
Both methods can be used.
