Consider the compression test sample illustrated below. Assume that you have 3 strain gauges that you can place on the bar.

a) How would you physically place these gauges on the specimen and in a Wheatstone bridge circuit to maximize the measured output voltage for an applied force? Describe and sketch how the gauges are placed on the test specimen. Also describe and sketch how the gauges are placed in the Wheatstone bridge circuit.

Note: all the three gages should be used to measure some deformations, and none of them can be usel as a dummy gauge (this mean a the three sensors have none-zero readings) in part a).

Hints: You may put the gauges in both vertical and horizontal directions (refer to the lecture notes on Sensor Signal Conditioning)
