Read the beginning of Ronnie's informational report.
The Great Smoky Mountains are a hugely popular national park located along the border of North Carolina and Tennessee. The Smokies, as
they are nicknamed, contain a portion of the oldest mountains in the world, the Appalachians. The park is made up of forests, mountains, and
streams. More people visit the Smokies each year than any other national park.
When viewed from a distance, the Smokies often look like they are enshrouded in smoke. Though actually fog, this smoky
appearance adds to the region's allure and mystery. The old-growth hardwood forests give the appearance of untouched relics from another time,
lending them an enchanted, magical quality.
