The Scanlon Plan and the Rucker Plan are based on the principle that:
- informal suggestion systems are superior to formal ones
- individual decision makers can evaluate ideas better than committees
- employees should not be forced to participate in gain sharing unless they want to
- management should adopt a philosophy of employee participation
