1. Describe the three phases involved in the rite of passage you have chosen to focus on. How do these phases help people undergoing the ceremony with their transition to a new status? Also, who officiates the ceremony and why is the officiant important in granting a person the new status?
2. Why do you think the rite of passage you chose for this assignment exists in your community? What does the existence of the ceremony tell you about the superstructure of your culture?
3. After reading this chapter and reflecting on your own experience, how important do you think rituals and rites of passage are for societies? Why do you feel the way you do?
