Reticuloendothelial system (RES)
- a network that is intrinsic to the immune function because it provides a passageway within and between tissues and organs
- consists of the thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, MALT, and GALT
- heavily endowed with WBCs called macrophages
