dbd is drilling a vertical well at 12,300 ft tvd with 12.3 ppg mud when a gas kick is taken. it is estimated that 32 bbl of 1.8 ppg gas has entered the well before it was fully shut in. the well diameter is 8.5 in. throughout and the drillstring consists of 300 ft of 6.5 in. od / 2 in. id drill collars (dc), 300 ft of 4.5 in. od / 2.75 in. id heavy-walled drillpipe (hwdp), and 4.0 in. od / 3.34 in. id drillpipe (dp) to surface. standpipe pressure at slow circulating rate was 135 psi prior to taking the kick.
