You will take on the identity of a European Immigrant coming to America from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. You may use the immigrant identity you were given during the simulation at the beginning of the week. You will write a journal entry or a letter describing your experiences coming to the United States at the turn of the century. In your journal make sure to include the following based on this historical information you learned in class this week: What country you left and your reasons for leaving and coming to America What your journey across the ocean to America was like What your experience going through inspections at Ellis island was like Where you settled when you arrived and why you settled there What your living conditions here in America are like now Your hopes and fears about your new life in America Make sure to include a lot of descriptive sensory detail (I saw, I heard, I felt, I smelled, I tasted etc.)
