Transmission of the inactivated state of an x chromosome in mammalian females is an epigenetic phenomenon. Although xist lncrna plays a major role in x chromosome inactivation, other proteins that modify chromatin also have a significant role. However, it is not clear how the inactive state of an x chromosome is transmitted to daughter cells through successive cell divisions. Identify epigenetic mechanisms that may allow transmission of the inactive state of an x chromosome through successive cell divisions.
