Narrative Essay–Elements
GOAL:
Writing a narrative essaythat includes such literary elements as plot, theme, and style makes it easier to see these elementsin others’ writing. Because of this, narrative writing helps us to develop a deeper understanding of literatureandalso become better writers aswe practice writing in different genres.
BACKGROUND:
A narrative essaytells a story and hasa plot that includes characters, setting, a conflict,and is based on a theme. Typically, narrative writing uses descriptive language to tell the story of one event that occurred over a short period of time in the writer’s life.
ASSIGNMENT:
Describe an experience in your life in which you had to overcome a fearand include the positive qualities you used to overcome that fear. These qualities couldbe such traitsas patience, inner strength, resilience, loyalty, versatility, etc.
