Zero tolerance policies are generally designed to eliminate a harmful element from a community. However, this can be a problem in schools where they are attached to suspensions, and students who violate them in minor ways or accidently find themselves suspended. Why would those who support zero tolerance policies advocate for them over those that examine specific situations and determine appropriate consequences?

A.
Many school administrators do not have time to listen to individual cases.

B.
Students need to know that their schools are unforgiving when it comes to certain kinds of mistakes.

C.
They will work well in most cases, so their overall effectiveness is not diminished by a few unfortunate circumstances.

D.
The fact that student’s education will be disrupted gives them a strong incentive to make sure that they are following the policy at all times.
