The BeReal app encourages users to take pictures of their surroundings to show the ‘real them’, as opposed to the more commonly carefully staged photos of other social media platforms. Whilst the aim might be commendable, the app doesn’t come without risks: especially at work. Top data protection advisor Vedant Lilliman warns ‘I’ve already heard of people accidentally leaking private information about customers by taking a picture of their desk. Not only is this unfair on the customers: but it can also have serious repercussions for a business too.’
