Advertisements on the internet, television, and radio try to get you to buy something by making a claim or statement. These claims will often sound scientific. However, many advertisements make statements or conclusions that are not entirely true. Advertisements sometimes exaggerate, which means they make a statement that a product is or does more than is actually true.
When deciding if an advertisement is true, look for other data that supports these claims. The data should come from peer-reviewed journals or trusted science textbooks.
Research a product you see advertised. What claim does it make? Does other scientific data support this claim? Decide if the claim is factual, fictional, or an exaggeration. List your sources to show your inference.
