Look for ways to reduce our dependence on oil would be the best option. The United States is currently self sufficient in oil, and does not depend on the OPEC anymore. However, the OPEC can still represent a geopolitical adversary or threat, and for this reason, energy self-sufficiency should be used to look for ways to phase out oil for other energy sources, like nuclear, geothermal, or solar.
